Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities in the state with the reception of the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Legion at the State Executive Council meeting.
The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to honouring military veterans, noting that their service and sacrifices are deeply valued in Lagos State.
As part of the support for the Legion, Sanwo-Olu announced the donation of ₦100 million and two utility vehicles to assist the organisation’s operations. He also disclosed that the state would provide four two-bedroom apartments, as well as food and other essential supplies, to support members of the Legion.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised that Nigeria’s sovereignty is sustained by the sacrifices of men and women of the armed forces, describing the Emblem Appeal as a collective responsibility to those who lost their lives in service to the nation and those who returned with life-altering injuries.
He said the gesture represents the state’s way of expressing gratitude to veterans for the sacrifices that continue to ensure freedom and unity in the country.
