Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the recruitment of new officers into the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) as part of efforts to strengthen community security and improve response time across the State.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, FISN, disclosed this while addressing stakeholders at the Lagos State Stakeholders’ Engagement and the launch of the School Safety and Security Response Team for public primary schools statewide.
Prince Oyekan said the recruitment exercise would significantly boost the agency’s operational capacity and enhance rapid response to security challenges at the grassroots level. He noted that the approval underscores the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for residents, particularly schoolchildren.
He recalled that the agency had earlier rolled out the Safer School Initiative, which assigns LNSC officers to safeguard pupils within and around school premises. According to him, the initiative has recorded notable successes, including a significant reduction in inter-school clashes, cult-related activities, and drug peddling among students.
Describing the renewed emphasis on school safety as long overdue, Prince Oyekan stressed that protecting children is a collective responsibility that requires sustained collaboration among government agencies, school administrators, parents, and community stakeholders.
In his remarks, the host of the event and Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Shittu Hakeem Babatunde, reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering resolve to provide a safe and secure learning environment for pupils across Lagos.
The event also attracted the Honourable Commissioner for Education (Basic and Secondary Education), Hon. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, as well as other key stakeholders from the education and security sectors.
