The Lagos State House of Assembly has dismissed claims that it made provisions in the 2026 Appropriation Law for the purchase of houses in Abuja for its members, describing the report as false, misleading and mischievous.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, and the Chairman of the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh, clarified that no such item exists in the 2026 budget.
The lawmakers stressed that the Lagos State House of Assembly does not operate in Abuja, noting that all its legislative duties and activities are carried out strictly within Lagos State.
They described the claim as a complete fabrication motivated by political mischief.
According to the statement, the Assembly’s capital expenditure for 2026 accounts for less than 0.04 per cent of the state’s total capital expenditure, reflecting its commitment to prudence, accountability and fiscal responsibility.
The Assembly further described the rumour as election-season propaganda designed to erode public trust and malign democratic institutions.
It challenged those behind the allegation to produce credible evidence to support their claims or retract the report, warning that failure to do so could attract legal action.
The House urged Lagos residents to disregard the rumour, verify information from official sources and remain vigilant against misinformation, reiterating its commitment to transparency, accountability and shared prosperity.
