A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has criticised the record of former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, insisting that the former governor did not build major infrastructure during his time in office.
Omokri said recent remarks by the incumbent governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, had vindicated his long-held position on Obi’s performance while in office.
According to him, Obi did not build key public infrastructure such as nursery, primary or secondary schools, a university, a standalone hospital, an airport, an independent power project or flyovers during his tenure as governor.
He claimed that aside from establishing a brewery in the state, there was little evidence of major infrastructure projects executed under Obi’s administration.
Omokri also alleged that poverty increased in Anambra State during Obi’s tenure, stating that the poverty rate rose from 41.4 percent in 2003 before Obi assumed office to 53.7 percent in 2009 while he was governor.
The former aide further questioned claims that Obi could strengthen an opposition coalition ahead of future elections. He referenced comments by media personality Dele Momodu suggesting an alliance involving Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could challenge the current administration.
Omokri argued that such a political arrangement would be ineffective against President Bola Tinubu, whom he credited with expanding Nigeria’s economic output since assuming office in May 2023.
