Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, on Friday launched a comprehensive stop-and-search operation across the Jos metropolis in a proactive effort to prevent further escalation of the ongoing crisis in Jos North.
The statement was signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE.
The operation, according to the task force, forms part of wider efforts to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of lives and property across the Plateau State.
The heightened security exercise yielded immediate results, with troops intercepting and arresting two suspects while recovering one fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one pump-action gun with a cutlass.
The arrests and recoveries were made during targeted operations carried out in key flashpoints and transit routes across Jos North and Jos South, including Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-Cost Housing Estate.
In a related development, troops also responded swiftly to a distress call over sporadic gunfire in the Yelwa Cattle Market area of Shendam.
On arrival, the troops reportedly forced the unidentified gunmen to flee into nearby bushes under superior tactical pressure. A follow-up sweep of the area led to the discovery of two local residents who had sustained gunshot wounds.
The victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining a strong security presence across Plateau State, noting that operations would continue with increased intensity until all threats of violence are neutralised and lasting peace is restored in affected communities.
