Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralised two suspected gunmen in a targeted operation within the Marit general area of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The coordinated ambush, carried out on the evening of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, followed credible intelligence on the movement of armed criminals known for terrorising local communities through violent attacks, sexual assault, and armed robbery.
According to military sources, the operation took place at about 7:49 p.m. near Doruwa Babuje, where troops engaged the suspects in a firefight after successfully laying an ambush.
During the encounter, two of the gunmen were killed, while others fled into nearby bushes under the cover of darkness.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.
Troops have since maintained their presence in Marit and Lajam communities to ensure the safety of residents, while efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
