The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has acknowledged the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered on Thursday, April 30, 2026, affirming the continuity of the party’s leadership structure.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mao Ohuabunwa, the BoT clarified that the apex court’s ruling upholds earlier decisions of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which nullified the PDP’s National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Ibadan.
The BoT, describing itself as the conscience and moral compass of the party, expressed full respect for and acceptance of the judgment, stressing that the legal position remains “clear and unambiguous.”
According to the statement, the nullification of the Ibadan convention invalidates all structures that emerged from the exercise, as they lack any legal foundation.
It added that the party’s leadership under Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu as National Secretary remains the legitimate and stabilizing authority at the national level.
The BoT further assured members that the party remains fully functional and will continue to operate through its recognized organs in line with its constitution as amended in 2017.
To strengthen unity and stability ahead of future elections, the board said necessary constitutional steps would be taken, including advising the National Working Committee to immediately set up a National Reconciliation Committee to engage aggrieved members across the country.
Calling for unity and discipline, the BoT urged party members to remain committed to the ideals and future of the PDP.
“The PDP remains strong, resilient, and committed to its historic mission of providing credible leadership to Nigeria,” the statement added.
