President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday swore in Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The brief ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in the presence of the ministers’ spouses, senior government officials, and other dignitaries.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tegbe and Enikanolaiye were nominated by President Tinubu following the resignations of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue their political ambitions. The Senate subsequently confirmed the appointments on May 6, 2026.

The new Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, is a renowned fiscal, economic and institutional reform strategist with more than 35 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors.
Born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Tegbe holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, as well as Master’s degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration from institutions in Switzerland and Birmingham, respectively.

Before his appointment, he served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at kpmg.com where he led major transformational initiatives, including presidential reform programmes and strategic development projects for subnational governments.

Throughout his career, Tegbe has worked with several leading organisations, including the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, shell.com, huawei.com, ge.com and mtn.ng, among others.

Also sworn in was Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, a seasoned diplomat from Igbagun, Kogi State, who assumes office as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Enikanolaiye earned a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, where he won the Dean’s Prize as the best graduating student in his faculty.

He later obtained a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy with distinction from University of Lagos.

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary in 2016. He retired from the civil service on August 4, 2017, after 35 years of distinguished service.
During his diplomatic career, Enikanolaiye served in several Nigerian missions abroad, including postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London and New Delhi, where he served as Nigeria’s Head of Mission.

He is a recipient of numerous honours, including the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award, the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award, and recognition as a Distinguished Fellow of the National Defence College.

Prior to his appointment as minister, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
