Just in: Lagos NURTW Organising Secretary Toba Ajiboye Dies After Reported Assassination Attempt
Comrade Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), is dead.
Although the cause of his death has not been officially confirmed, unverified reports suggest he died from injuries allegedly sustained during an assassination attempt last week.
Ajiboye was reportedly attacked on Sunday night when suspected gunmen allegedly opened fire on his vehicle while he was returning home from the Fadeyi area of Lagos.
According to reports, the assailants riddled his white vehicle with bullets, leaving multiple holes on the windscreen and other parts of the car. A video widely circulated on social media showed the bullet-riddled vehicle, raising concerns among supporters and residents over the alleged attack.
News of his death emerged on Monday, with several NURTW members announcing his passing on social media and paying tribute to his life and contributions to the union.
One of the tributes came from Alhaji Adekunle Olarenwaju, who described Ajiboye as a loyal, dependable and committed ally.
He said Ajiboye was “more than an ally; he was a trusted friend, a man of steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment, and a true pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation.”
Olarenwaju extended his condolences to Ajiboye’s family, friends and the NURTW, praying for God to grant him eternal rest and give those he left behind the strength to bear the loss.
As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the reported attack or Ajiboye’s death.
