Former Senator Olusola Adeyeye has disclosed an incident involving ex-Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, who allegedly confided in him about being pressured by politicians to provide funds through extortion.
Speaking on the matter, Adeyeye recounted how Emefiele once visited his residence and expressed fears that certain politicians were targeting him for financial demands.
The senator also revealed that shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office in 2015, he and Chief Bisi Akande met with the president to share their concerns regarding these alleged extortion attempts. However, Buhari reportedly advised them to keep the matter confidential.
According to Adeyeye, three years later, upon noticing that no action had been taken against those involved, he approached Buhari again as the 2019 election period drew near. In response, Buhari reportedly told him that he had confronted Emefiele about the allegations, only to learn that the funds in question were relatively small compared to the sums allegedly given to former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.
The revelation adds to the controversies surrounding the financial dealings and political influence within Buhari’s administration.
