One of the Rotaract Clubs in Lagos State, the Rotaract Club of Omole Golden will on April 25 and 26, hold series of events to raise awareness of the public to health issues like sickle cell disorder, cancer, HIV/AIDS and polio.

The two-day programme titled: “Catwalk for a Cause: Fashioning Awareness” will focus on raising awareness about the four ailments through “a creative blend of fashion, education, and free medical outreach.”

According to Daniella Omotola Olayinka, a rotarsctor and Co-Project Chair for Disease Prevention and Treatment for Rotaract Club of Omole Golden, free health services will also be offered as part of the programme.

The free medical services include blood pressure checks, glucose testing, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, malaria testing, polio vaccination, and simple cancer education

Olayinka said “First day of the event, will take place at Ogba Central Mall, Ogba, Lagos and will be a marketplace outreach, offering free health services like blood pressure checks, glucose testing, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, malaria testing, polio vaccination, and simple cancer education.

“Day Two will feature brief masterclasses by health professionals and a themed fashion show where each attire represents one of the diseases.”

On the idea behind the programme, Olayinka said the goal was to make health awareness engaging and relatable, using fashion to spark conversations and spread knowledge.

“The project aims to reach over 300 people physically and more than 3,000 virtually. It also hopes to raise funds for NGOs working to support individuals affected by these conditions,” she said.
