Barely 11 days after the successful conduct of bye-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 states, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the re-training of its Electoral Officers, Heads of Department, and Assistant Electoral Officers in Anambra State. The exercise is part of preparations for the state’s governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
Speaking on the objectives of the Election Monitoring and Support Centre (EMSC) workshop, the Chief Technical Adviser (CTA) to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Bolade Eyinla, described the EMSC as a planning, monitoring, implementation, and electoral early warning system. He noted that the system enables the Commission to plan, implement, and monitor electoral activities in real time through a coordinated and proactive approach.
Eyinla recalled that since its activation during the successful conduct of the Ekiti State off-cycle governorship election in July 2018, the EMSC has become a critical tool in managing elections, including the 2019 and 2023 general elections, as well as other off-cycle governorship and bye-elections.
National Commissioner, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, charged participants to absorb key aspects of the training to ensure the delivery of a free, fair, credible, and inclusive governorship election in November.
Also speaking, the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Queen Elizabeth Agu, commended the officials for their performance during the recent bye-elections held in the state. She urged them to redouble their efforts as the governorship election, now less than three months away, approaches.
