The Lagos State election of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has been suspended following a directive from the union’s national secretariat.
The decision was announced on Tuesday during the TUC Lagos 1st Quadrennial State Delegate Conference, where delegates had gathered to elect new state executives.
Midway into the process, a representative of the national secretariat declared the election postponed and introduced a five-member caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the council temporarily.
The move sparked outrage among some workers, who staged a walkout in protest, accusing the leadership of undermining a transparent electoral process.
