Makinde Recounts Early Wealth, Says Rift With Wike Linked to 2027 Politics

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has spoken about his early financial success and outlined the political disagreement that has strained his relationship with former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Makinde disclosed that by the age of 29, he had already earned one million dollars, recalling that the milestone was achieved in 1997.

He contrasted his career path with that of Wike, noting that at the time, Wike had just graduated from law school and was preparing to take up his first role as a local government chairman.

The Oyo governor further revealed that his major disagreement with Wike stems from recent political engagements involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Makinde, Wike had indicated his intention to position the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Makinde stated that he made it clear he would not be part of any arrangement that commits the PDP to backing Tinubu in the next presidential election, a stance he said remains central to the rift between them.
