President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to religious freedom, national unity and the protection of all Nigerians, irrespective of faith, as Christians across the country celebrate Christmas.
In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message to Nigerians on Wednesday, the President called on citizens to reflect on the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ and the values of love, peace, hope and goodwill to humanity that the season represents.
Tinubu congratulated Christians in Nigeria and around the world on the celebration, expressing gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve as President and praying for peace in the country, particularly among people of different religious beliefs.
He assured Nigerians that his government remains resolute in upholding religious freedom and protecting adherents of all faiths from violence, stressing that no citizen should suffer persecution because of their beliefs.
“As President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence,” he said.
The President acknowledged the contributions of Christians to Nigeria’s development, noting that the teachings of Christ have inspired many to support the vulnerable and less privileged, as well as promote peace, harmony and tolerance in their communities.
According to him, Christmas serves as a reminder of hope and faith, especially in challenging times, reassuring Nigerians that God remains with the nation despite its difficulties.
Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s commitment, since assuming office in 2023, to safeguarding Nigeria’s security, unity and stability in line with the Constitution.
“All Nigerians have the right to live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity,” he said, adding that shared values of love for God and humanity across all faiths must continue to unite the country.
The President disclosed that he has engaged leaders of the country’s major religions throughout the year to address concerns over insecurity and religious intolerance, pledging to strengthen collaboration between government and religious institutions to prevent conflict and promote peaceful coexistence.
As Nigerians travel to celebrate the festive season with family and loved ones, Tinubu urged motorists to exercise patience and discipline on the roads, wishing travellers safe journeys and returns.
He expressed optimism about the country’s future, stating that with faith in God and collective effort, Nigeria would continue on the path of progress.
Tinubu concluded by wishing Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.
