Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over the fire outbreak that occurred at the Great Nigeria House, Lagos Island, describing the incident as tragic and painful.
In a statement on Thursday, the governor said his thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the fire, which caused significant damage to the multi-storey building.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed that he visited the Balogun area for an on-the-spot assessment of the incident, noting that the magnitude of the loss and the pain suffered by victims could not be fully captured in written reports.
“No written report can truly reflect the pain or the full extent of this loss,” the governor said.
He commended firefighters, emergency responders, and other relevant agencies for their swift and tireless efforts in containing the inferno, stressing that their courage and dedication helped save lives and prevented the fire from spreading further.
The governor assured affected persons that the state government would continue to assess the situation and provide necessary support to victims.
Sanwo-Olu added that Lagos has a history of resilience in the face of adversity and expressed confidence that the state would overcome the incident through collective strength and unity.
