The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed deep shock and sadness over the passing of Miss Chika Jewel Okparaeke, a vibrant social media influencer and ardent supporter of the party. Fondly known as “Ada Buhari,” Miss Okparaeke was described as stoic, courageous and unwavering in her defence of the progressive policies of APC-led administrations. Her passion, boldness and commitment to promoting the ideals of the party—particularly within the social media space—distinguished her as a formidable voice of support. A thoroughbred and hardworking professional, the late Miss Okparaeke consistently demonstrated uncommon dedication and excellence, both in her work for the party…
Troops of 1 Division/Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have foiled a banditry attack and neutralised one suspected violent extremist during a snap ambush operation in the Maraban Rido general area of Kaduna State. The operation followed a distress call received late on 22 January 2026, reporting the presence of armed bandits who had rustled livestock in Anguwan Fulan village, within the Rido axis. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops deployed to the area and laid a hasty ambush. On arrival, the troops made contact with the fleeing bandits and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to retreat…
The Office of Abubakar Malami, SAN, has raised alarm over what it described as coordinated actions by state security and anti-graft agencies aimed at frustrating his constitutional right to fair hearing and effective legal defence. In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, the office said following the filing of charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Federal High Court granted Malami bail. However, the EFCC allegedly delayed the submission of his international passports to the court for about one week, despite the documents being a key requirement for the perfection of…
In the volatile theatre of international relations, where a single tweet or a misplaced word can trigger a diplomatic meltdown, the hallmark of authentic leadership is the ability to maintain composure under fire. Recently, Nigeria found itself at the centre of such a storm. Following intense pressure, United States President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) in November 2025. This designation, rooted in allegations of “Christian persecution,” was accompanied by a characteristically blunt threat: to enter Nigeria “guns-a-blazing” to resolve the security crisis. For many, this was a moment for panic. And for President Bola…

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the withdrawal of its suit against the Nigeria Police Force over the blockade and occupation of its national secretariat, citing deep concerns about judicial impartiality in the handling of the case. In a statement on Wednesday, the party said it filed a notice of discontinuance in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/2520/2025, which it instituted at the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking an order compelling the police to remove the blockade, vacate the party’s secretariat and hand it over to the legitimately elected leadership of the PDP. The case was assigned by the Chief Judge of…
Members of the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria, alongside officials of the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association (FOBTOB) and the National Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE), on Friday staged a protest at the Lagos State office of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) over the ban on the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets. The protesters, who converged on the NAFDAC office in the early hours of the day, carried placards and sang solidarity songs, calling on the regulatory agency to reverse what they described as a…
The Federal Government has barred electricity distribution companies (DisCos) and installers from collecting any payment for meter installation, warning that violators will be prosecuted. Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, gave the directive on Thursday while inspecting 500,000 newly imported smart meters in Lagos. He said the meters, procured under the World Bank–funded Distribution Sector Recovery Programme, must be installed free of charge. Adelabu said about one million meters have been received so far, with 150,000 already installed, as part of plans to deploy 3.4 million meters nationwide. He added that meters would be distributed to all customers, regardless of tariff…
A fatal multiple-vehicle crash involving articulated trucks occurred on Friday at Otedola Bridge, inward Secretariat, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, temporarily paralysing traffic and triggering a swift multi-agency emergency response. The main accident involved a collision between two heavy-duty trailers—one conveying sand and the other loaded with granite—reportedly caused by a contest for right of way. The impact trapped the driver of the sand-laden trailer, who sustained fatal injuries and was later confirmed dead. Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Rescue Team, while on routine surveillance, responded promptly to the scene. The trapped driver was successfully extricated and…
