Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has accused the Commissioner of Police (CP), Lagos State Command, CP Moshood Jimoh of misrepresenting facts surrounding the ongoing case of Quadri Alabi.
Effiong, who is representing Alabi in the matter, made the allegation on Monday ahead of a scheduled meeting with the CP at the State Police Headquarters. In a statement issued before the meeting, Effiong expressed dismay over comments made by the CP during an interview on Channels Television earlier in the day.
“We are currently at the Headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command to meet with the Commissioner of Police, following his request for a meeting regarding Quadri Alabi’s case,” Effiong stated.
“We are however taken aback by the views and comments expressed this morning by the CP on Channels TV where he went out of his way to misrepresent the facts of the case. His comments are sad and enough reason for us to boycott the meeting.”
Despite his disappointment, Effiong said he would proceed with the meeting “out of courtesy and respect for his office,” noting that they had “nothing to hide.”
Effiong was accompanied by Quadri Alabi and Hassana Nurudeen for the meeting. He assured that further updates would be provided on the outcome of their engagement with the police.
