WAEC to Re-Announce WASSCE 2025 Results After Technical Review

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is set to re-announce the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates today, following a temporary suspension caused by technical issues uncovered during an internal post-release review.

Earlier this week, WAEC had released the initial results, revealing a significant decline in overall student performance. Out of nearly 2 million candidates who sat for the exam, only 754,545 candidates — representing 38.32% — obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, the two core subjects required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, had disclosed the initial statistics during a press briefing held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the Council’s headquarters in Yaba, Lagos.

The figure marks a steep drop of 33.8% from the 72.12% pass rate recorded in 2024, which WAEC described as a “noticeable drop in overall performance.” The Council has not confirmed whether the technical review will lead to any changes in the original statistics.
