Leading cement manufacturer, Dangote Cement Plc has donated pickup vans to the traffic management agencies in Lagos and Ogun States as part of its commitment to public safety, infrastructure support, and national development.
At a brief handover ceremony held at the Dangote Group’s project office in Ikeja, the company’s Head of Social Performance, Mr. Wakeel Olayiwola, presented the vehicles to the leadership of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Olayiwola said the gesture underscores Dangote Cement’s belief in meaningful partnerships with government to ease movement of people, goods, and services while reducing manhours lost in traffic congestion.
“As a leading player in our nation’s industrial landscape, Dangote Cement understands that our operations go beyond business. We are part of the communities we serve, and we recognize the critical role that efficient traffic management plays in ensuring the safety of lives, the smooth flow of goods, and the overall well-being of our cities,” he said.
He emphasized that the vehicles would aid rapid response to incidents, improve patrol coverage across major corridors, and strengthen enforcement of traffic regulations.
Receiving the vehicles, Mrs. Aderonke Tokunbo-Peters, Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Transport, who led the TRACE delegation, described the donation as a demonstration of corporate responsibility and community partnership.
“This donation is not just a gift of vehicles; it is a powerful statement of shared vision for public safety and service excellence,” she said.
Similarly, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended Dangote Cement, noting that the gesture highlights what is possible when public and private sectors collaborate.
“Traffic management is not just a government responsibility — it is a shared civic duty that affects every commuter, every business, and every family. With these vehicles, we are better positioned to reduce accidents, improve traffic flow, and safeguard lives,” Bakare-Oki stated.
Both TRACE and LASTMA pledged to put the vehicles to effective use in enhancing safer and more efficient traffic management across Lagos and Ogun States.
