Stakeholders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State have expressed sharply contrasting positions over ongoing speculations about a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by key party leaders, including Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Chairman of Gwale Local Government Area, Abubakar Mu’azu Mojo, alongside other NNPP stakeholders at the local government level, on Monday publicly urged Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf to consider joining the APC following a meeting held in the area.
The call, however, was immediately countered by the Kano State Chairman of the NNPP, Suleiman Hashim Dungurawa, who appealed to the governor to abandon any plans to defect from the party.
“On behalf of all of us collectively, we once again appeal to them, for the sake of Allah and the Prophet, not to leave this party and not to defect to the party that we have opposed,” Dungurawa said.
He stressed that the NNPP leadership and supporters in Kano remain firmly committed to the party and urged Governor Yusuf to reconsider any move that could undermine the platform on which he was elected.
