The Ogun and Lagos state governments have confirmed that British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a road traffic accident on Tuesday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The statement was jointly signed by the Special Adviser on Information to the Ogun State Governor, Kayode Akinmade, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.

According to a joint statement issued by the two governments, the vehicle conveying Joshua and three other persons collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the death of two occupants.

The governments expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased, offering prayers for strength and comfort as they mourn their loss.

The statement disclosed that Anthony Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where they underwent several clinical assessments.

Medical doctors confirmed that both patients are in stable condition and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time.

It added that a comprehensive medical team has been assembled to continue monitoring their condition, noting that Joshua has been responding well and is in contact with his family.

The Ogun and Lagos state governments said they are closely monitoring the situation and will ensure that the injured persons receive the best possible medical care.

Investigations have also commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The governments appreciated the concern shown by members of the public and appealed for privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family during this period.
