The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede has clarified that the ongoing investigation involving the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), is not driven by personal motives.
Speaking during an exclusive interview on Channels Television, the EFCC chairman said the probe into Malami began long before he assumed office, stressing that he merely inherited the case file and ensured that due process was followed.
“The Malami case is not personal. His investigation predated my time in office. I inherited his investigation file, and all I did was to ensure that the investigation was carried out in a very professional and thorough manner,” he stated.
According to the EFCC boss, Malami has been under investigation for nearly two and a half years, with the probe commencing shortly after the exit of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
He added that the commission remains committed to conducting its investigations without bias, intimidation or favour, noting that all individuals under investigation are treated in line with the law and established procedures.
He reiterated the agency’s resolve to uphold professionalism and transparency in its anti-corruption efforts, regardless of the status or influence of those involved.
