The Rivers State House of Assembly has resolved to proceed with impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, directing that the allegations against him be advanced to the next stage of investigation.
The decision was reached during plenary on Thursday, following deliberations by lawmakers on the impeachment notice before the House.
The resolution, the Assembly said, will be formally communicated to the Chief Judge of Rivers State in line with constitutional provisions.
Consequently, the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, has called on the Chief Judge to immediately constitute a seven-member investigative committee to examine the allegations against Governor Fubara and his Deputy Governor.
The committee, once inaugurated, is expected to investigate the claims and submit its findings to the House, which will determine the next course of action in the impeachment process.
