The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Aminu Sule Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, challenging his conviction over the failure to declare $40,000 in cash while travelling out of the country.

In a unanimous decision delivered on Friday, January 16, 2026, a five-member panel of the apex court resolved all issues against the appellant and affirmed the judgments of both the Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna and the Federal High Court, Kano.
Aminu Sule Lamido was originally convicted on July 12, 2015, by the Federal High Court in Kano on charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for making a false declaration of foreign currency and failing to declare the sum of $40,000 at the point of departure.

The trial court also ordered the forfeiture of 25 per cent of the undeclared sum to the Federal Government.

In dismissing the appeal, the Supreme Court held that it lacked merit and consequently upheld the decisions of the lower courts in their entirety, bringing the long-running legal battle to a close.
