Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command’s Task Force on Illegal Mining have arrested a 38-year-old man for the unlawful possession of suspected explosive materials.

The arrest was made on January 27, 2027, at about 4:15 p.m., following credible and actionable intelligence. The suspect, identified as Mustapha Mohammad, was apprehended while driving a Toyota Corolla.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 954 pieces of suspected explosive materials concealed in polyethylene bags. Preliminary investigations suggest that the items were intended for use by bandits as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The suspect is currently in police custody, while the recovered exhibits have been secured and formally handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team for safe custody and detailed forensic analysis.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to ascertain the source, destination and intended use of the explosives, as well as to identify and apprehend other accomplices connected to the crime.

Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, Gusau.
