The Lagos State Government has commenced an investigation into an incident that occurred on Saturday, February 14, 2026, near the finishing line of the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

According to a preliminary report, an ambulance deployed as part of the official medical emergency response for the event was involved in an accident when a female non-athlete within the event arena came in contact with the vehicle. The ambulance was conveying athletes who had earlier required medical attention.

Event officials immediately alerted the crew to stop after noticing the situation. The emergency medical team assessed the affected individual on the spot before evacuating her to a public health facility for further evaluation.

The victim sustained bruises and complained of chest pains but was stabilised at the scene, with her vital signs confirmed stable. She is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

The Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are monitoring her condition, while senior government officials have visited the hospital.

Authorities confirmed the patient remains stable and under close professional supervision as a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident continues.
The statement was signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso.
