Eight members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday announced their defection to different political parties on the floor of the Green Chamber, a move widely seen as strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general election primaries.
The defections cut across major political parties, reflecting shifting alliances as political actors begin early realignments.
Among those who switched parties is Abubakar Abdul Buba from Niger State, who moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Similarly, Ibrahim Mohammed Bunza of Kebbi State also defected from the PDP to the APC.
In Kebbi State, Sani Yakubu Noma left the PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while in Osun State, two lawmakers — Mudashiru Alani and Olusoji Adetunji — both dumped the PDP for the Accord Party.
From Lagos State, Thaddeus Attah defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the ADC, while Bashir Usman Zubairu of Kaduna State also joined the ADC from the APC.
In a reverse move, David Abel Fouh from Taraba State left the APC to join the PDP.
The announcements were made during plenary, in line with parliamentary procedures, and were formally recorded by the House leadership.
