Paul Varsity Suspends Staff Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct, Launches Investigation
Paul University, Awka, has suspended a member of its staff, Ven. Cornelius C. Eze, a Practical Biology Technologist in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, over allegations of sexual misconduct.
In a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Rev’d Godsplan Onukwufor, the institution said the allegations were brought to the attention of the management on July 14, 2026.
The university said it acted immediately by inviting the appropriate security agency to take over the matter after tensions reportedly rose among students, a move aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order.
As an initial administrative measure, the management placed the staff member on indefinite suspension pending the outcome of both the university’s internal disciplinary process and investigations by law enforcement authorities.
The institution stressed that the suspension does not prejudice the outcome of the ongoing investigations.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on sexual harassment and other forms of misconduct, the university said it remains committed to upholding the values of integrity, discipline, moral uprightness, and respect for human dignity.
It added that any staff member or student found guilty of violating the institution’s regulations or the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with due process.
The university also disclosed that arrangements were being made to provide counselling and psychological support for the affected student(s) and any other members of the university community impacted by the incident.
While urging the public to avoid speculation or the spread of misinformation that could compromise ongoing investigations, the management assured parents, guardians, students, and staff of its commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and morally sound learning environment.
The university said further updates would be provided as investigations progress and when appropriate.
