Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have foiled a terrorist mission aimed at extorting residents in Yobe State, dealing another blow to Boko Haram/ISWAP networks and denying them access to illicit sources of funding.
The statement was signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri.
The operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles allegedly conveying Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to collect illegal levies from communities.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, in collaboration with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol along the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19, 2026.
The troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower. During the exchange, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was immobilised, while its driver was neutralised.
Four other terrorists reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot wounds.
A follow-up exploitation operation conducted on July 20 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned vehicle and several items, including 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs such as paracetamol and nicotine products, and mechanical tools believed to have supported the terrorists’ logistics operations.
Operation HADIN KAI said the successful mission highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in disrupting terrorist logistics, dismantling illegal revenue networks, and restricting the operational freedom of insurgents across the North-East.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations in collaboration with other security agencies and with the support of law-abiding citizens until terrorism is decisively defeated and lasting peace, security, and stability are restored across the region.
