The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, on Tuesday signed the 2027 National Peace Accord ahead of the general elections.
The signing ceremony was organised by the National Peace Committee as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Also signing the Peace Accord was the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi.
Speaking after signing the accord, Obi urged Nigerians to reject politicians who violate the agreement in the course of the 2027 electoral process.
He said citizens should hold political actors accountable for their commitment to peaceful and credible elections.
“Nigerians should not vote any politician who violates the Peace Accord ahead of the 2027 elections,” Obi said.
The National Peace Accord is aimed at securing commitments from political parties and their candidates to peaceful conduct before, during and after elections.
The ceremony brought together key political actors and stakeholders as part of efforts to promote peaceful participation and prevent violence during the 2027 electoral process.
