The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially flagged off its campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, with a charge to residents of the state to resist intimidation and stand by their votes during the poll next year.

Addressing party faithful at the campaign flag-off ceremony held at the Ake Pavilion, Alake’s Palace, Abeokuta, Oladipupo Adebutu, the Chairman of the Campaign Committee and the governorship candidate of the party in Ogun State, urged them to remain vigilant after casting their votes and to follow the process through to the collation centres to safeguard their ballots.

Adebutu added that, as voters, they should not leave polling units immediately after voting but stay to ensure their votes are properly counted and transmitted.

While assuring residents that the PDP would restore happy days if voted into power next year, he expressed optimism that Nigerians would once again experience improved living conditions.

“I know the happy days are coming again in January. By the grace of God, the leader in Nigeria has asked me to say one prayer. The prayer is that we shall banish poverty,” he stated.

Adebutu, however, urged PDP supporters to remain committed to the party and ensure that their votes count during the election, insisting that they must resist intimidation and stand firmly behind their choices at the polls.

Also speaking, the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP, Mrs Lateefat Sowunmi-Kolapo, urged residents to troop out en masse and vote for the PDP during the exercise, stressing that elections are about the people and their right to choose their leaders.

“After voting don’t say that you are done and leave. Cast your vote and stay with it at the polling unit. Stand by your vote, follow them to the collation center.

“Do not be intimidated, the vote is for the people, so let’s come out and exercise our franchise. May God give us the victory. Vote for PDP from the top to the bottom,” she stated.

The senatorial candidate of the party, Iyabo Obasanjo, in her remarks, stated that her drive to return the senatorial district to its pride of place necessitated her return to the PDP after her short sojourn at the All Progressives Congress (APC).

She noted that, having served in the same capacity between 2007 and 2011, she was shocked that her successes had been eroded by successive representatives.

“My desire to take back our senatorial district to where it was when I represented it is the reason why I came back to the PDP, and take up the challenge of restoring our lost glories”, she said.

On his part, the House of Representatives candidate for the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Toyin Amuzu, declared that the PDP remained the only party that had the welfare of the people as a top priority.

While emphasising that people must come out in numbers to vote out the ruling party in 2027, Amuzu pledged to offer qualitative representation capable of transforming Abeokuta South Federal Constituency if he is given the mandate.

Earlier, residents and party supporters had stormed the streets of the three federal constituencies in Ogun Central Senatorial District, pledging their unflinching support for the PDP candidates and assuring them of their votes in January.
