Evangelist Isaac Omolehin has recounted how his wife stood by him during the difficult years of their marriage, when he was struggling financially and frying buns to make ends meet.
Omolehin, reflecting on his journey with his wife, said she remained committed to him despite pressure from people around her to leave the relationship because they doubted his ability to succeed.
He said his wife was a student at the University of Ibadan (UI) at the time and was surrounded by people who believed his struggles were evidence that he would not amount to much.
“When life pressed me hard, I was frying buns just to survive. People around her kept telling her to look for someone else. They said my struggle was a sign that I wouldn’t become anything,” he recalled.
According to him, his wife refused to succumb to the pressure and chose to remain with him despite the uncertainty surrounding their future.
“She stayed. She chose me when choosing me didn’t make sense. She believed in me when all I had was hope and a small frying pan,” he said.
Omolehin said their marriage, which many people once doubted, is now approaching 50 years, attributing their journey to God’s grace, love and commitment.
“And today, the same marriage many people doubted is now on its way to 50 years. Grace kept us. Love held us. God lifted us,” he said.
He added that having achieved greater stability in life, he ensures that his wife enjoys the best and that they continue to grow and serve God together.
“Since God raised me, I make sure she receives the best. We move together. We rise together. We honour God together,” Omolehin said.
He anchored his reflection on Proverbs 18:22, which states: “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favour from the Lord.”
He also cited Ecclesiastes 4:9–10, which emphasises the strength and support that come from companionship in marriage.
