The Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, says one of its students has been abducted by suspected bandits at an off-campus hostel in Kalgo Local Government of Kebbi. The Accountant General of Bauchi State, Sirajo Muhammad Jaja has been arraigned before a Federal High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja. Jaja was arraigned alongside a bureau de change operator, Aliyu Abubakar, and his company. Others involved in the case, who are currently at large, include a former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kashim, the incumbent Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo, Saleh Mohammed and Balarabe Abdullahi. Protest broke out on Tuesday at the Cornelia Connelly College (CCC) camp of athletes participating at the maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) over non-payment of their allowance. The festival is taking place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom with the closing ceremony billed for Tuesday after which participating athletes would depart to their various states. A volcano in the central Philippines on Tuesday morning erupted, sending up a plume of ash and debris and forcing authorities to close schools and evacuate nearby residents, officials said. The eruption occurred at the summit vent of Kanlaon volcano at 5:51a.m. (2151 GMT Monday), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. “The eruption is producing a voluminous bent plume, approximately 4,000 metres tall that is drifting south-west,’’ the agency said in a statement. The Police command in Lagos State has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly burgling a flat and raping a 47-year-old woman. Command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday in Lagos. He said it occurred around 3:00 a.m. on March 26 in the Ikotun area of the state. The Police Command in Lagos State says it has detained seven murder suspects in two weeks. A devastating car accident on Sagamu Road has claimed the lives of Evangelist Kekere Jesu, a well-known Nigerian pastor, and his assistant, Iyanu Joseph. The accident involved multiple vehicles and was reportedly caused by excessive speed and poor visibility. Kekere Jesu was traveling for a ministry assignment when the tragedy occurred.
