The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has fixed April 30 as the final deadline for membership revalidation and registration ahead of the 2027 general election. A notice by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ejimofor Opara, yesterday in Awka, said the deadline applied to all intending members as well as existing members nationwide. He said the exercise was in compliance with Section 77(5) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandated political parties to submit a comprehensive digital membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Opara explained that only members, whose details were captured in the party’s digital register to…
President Bola Tinubu has handed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors a marching order to deliver on party primaries, expressing thanks for their support while granting them full autonomy under the Electoral Act. This emerged after an executive meeting at the State House, Abuja, where Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago spoke for the governors. “We came to see Mr. President, we came to thank him for his magnanimity and his support to the governors and for our party, the APC. He gave us a matching order to what to do for him also,” Bago said, noting Tinubu’s ceding of executive…
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stepped into the ongoing teachers’ strike in Abuja, directing that outstanding allowances and emoluments be paid directly in a bid to resolve the crisis. Wike made the intervention after meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) FCT wing in Abuja, where he expressed concern that continued industrial action would further disrupt learning and affect pupils in public schools. He criticised lapses in the handling of the dispute, noting that key stakeholders, including area council chairmen, were not properly involved in earlier discussions. “It would not be proper…
Femi Falana has described the planned trial of 36 alleged coup plotters before a military court as unconstitutional, urging the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to intervene. In a statement, Falana called on the AGF to invoke his powers under Section 174 of the Constitution to terminate what he termed an “illegal charge” before the General Court Martial and instead arraign the accused officers at the Federal High Court. “I am compelled to call on the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to exercise his powers under Section 174 of the Constitution by terminating the illegal charge…
The All Progressives Congress has shifted its presidential primary election, earlier slated for May 15 and 16, to May 23, 2026, while the governorship primaries will now hold on May 21, 2026, in line with a revised timetable for its 2027 general election activities. The APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, disclosed this at the end of the 186th National Working Committee meeting in Abuja on Thursday, announcing adjustments to the earlier schedule, including the postponement of key processes such as the screening of aspirants and the consideration of appeals. Meseko also disclosed that the screening of aspirants, initially…

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its convener, Oluwatosin Dada, the group described the election as a defining moment for the state, warning that Ekiti “cannot afford another term of deceit and propaganda.” The group expressed dissatisfaction with the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, alleging that residents are disillusioned by what it called unfulfilled promises and hardship. The Senate has raised fresh concerns over mounting casualties from renewed terror attacks, urging the armed forces to take urgent steps to halt assaults on military formations in the North-East. The lawmakers said the review should assess equipment adequacy, operational readiness and rules of engagement, with a view to addressing gaps exposed by…
