President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation after a rigorous selection process. His appointment, approved today, takes effect from 7th March 2025, the same day the incumbent Oluwatoyin Madehin will retire. Ogunjimi, 57, was first named as Madehin’s successor last December. A selection committee later chose him through a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service. The Police Command in Enugu State, says it has arrested seven suspects for alleged armed robbery and conspiracy. The Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Enugu. Ndukwe said that the suspects were apprehended by detectives attached to the command’s Criminal Investigation Department. He explained that the arrest of the suspects followed credible intelligence and response to a report received at the Unity Police Division. The House of Representatives has through its legislation allocated N6 billion for the reconstruction of the long-neglected Gbaji-Apa-Owode road in the 2025 national budget, a lawmaker has said. Rep. Sesi Whingan, who represents Badagry Federal Constituency, disclosed this in a statement issued through his media team in Lagos on Tuesday. Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, says he has implicit confidence in the Nigerian judiciary and the current leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in spite of his personal experiences of persecution and trial. The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that Canada would impose 25-per cent tariffs on 155 billion Canadian dollars (about 107 billion U.S. dollars) worth of U.S. goods. According to Trudeau, this will happen if the United States proceeds with its proposed tariffs on Canadian products. Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has said that the North-west zone has become a massive crime scene. A 25-year-old Nigerian man who overstayed his visa in US has been charged with defrauding the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Insurance Benefits Program and the Paycheck Protection Program. The Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Chad Meacham, announced this in a press statement on Monday, March 3, 2025. The operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a suspected burglar on his way to dispose of three mobile phones of his benefactor. The suspect; Yusuf Ojo (27) was arrested around 5:00 a.m. in Oshodi, last Wednesday by the police.
